13:00 — Lunch facing the kasbah, then the road of a thousand kasbahs: Ouarzazate, the palm oasis of Skoura, and the Valley of Roses.
17:30 — Dades Gorge. Night in a charming gorge-side hotel beneath the famous cliff switchbacks — dinner included, stars already improving.
8:30 — The Dades in morning light, then on to Todra Gorge — a 300-metre-high canyon you walk into along its icy stream, palms at your back, climbers dotting the walls.
12:30 — Lunch in Tinghir or the palmery, then the land flattens, dries, and begins to promise sand: Erfoud, Rissani (the old caravan capital), and finally — rising like a mirage — the Erg Chebbi.
17:00 — The moment. Camels kneel, you mount (laughing — everyone laughs), and the caravan sways into the dunes as they turn from gold to fire. An hour and a bit of the oldest travel rhythm on earth.

Embrace the drive — it’s the point. Yes: roughly 8, 5, and 7.5 hours across the three days. Also yes: it’s the most scenic driving in North Africa, broken constantly by stops. Travelers who reframe “long drives” as “the show itself” rate the trip highest — because that’s what it is.
Do the sunrise. Warm bed, cold dawn, tired legs — skip-temptation is real and always regretted. The dunes at first light are the trip’s crown; sleep in the vehicle afterward.

Choose the camp tier that fits your story. Standard camps are genuinely good — this isn’t the trap tier. Luxury camps are for the proposal, the honeymoon, the once-in-a-decade splurge. We’ll show real photos of both; pick with open eyes.

Common Mistakes Travelers Make on This Route
Booking the cheapest seat in the square. The rock-bottom shared tours run packed minivans, bait-and-switch camps, and commission stops. The saddest reviews of the Sahara were all bought at a discount.
Expecting a 2-day version to reach these dunes. It can’t — the Erg Chebbi is simply too far. Two-day desert trips go to Zagora (smaller dunes, honestly framed on that page); the Merzouga crossing needs its three days.
Sleeping through the Ziz Valley. Day 3 fatigue is real; the palm canyon after Errachidia is worth fighting it for. Coffee at breakfast, eyes open by mid-morning.
Packing for daytime only. The classic shivering-in-a-t-shirt camp guest. Desert nights drop 20+ degrees from the afternoon. Bring the layer.
Skipping the sunrise ride. Covered above; repeated because it’s the #1 next-day regret we hear from other companies’ guests.
